Message from the President July 2008 We are off to a fantastic start! The 14th annual Bottle Auction was a great success. The theme was “Hooray for Hollywood” and brought a little bit of glamour back to our Bottle Auction. Nearly 100 people came; we saw a lot of new faces and had a chance to visit with some folks we haven’t seen in a while. It was a great evening! The Bottle Auction committee did an outstanding job, the room looked amazing with the red carpet, the Oscars to greet you at the entrance and on the tables, the creativity with the bottles. Wow! Sometimes in all the fun and festivities of the Bottle Auction I think we forget that this is also our Employer Appreciation and VIP night. We announced that Encore Bank was our Corporate Sponsor of the Year and Land Mortgage our Employer of the Year. Both companies deserve a round of applause from all of us for their support of NAPMW-Austin, we couldn’t do it without them. We will be hosting our Bottle Auction Thank-You Happy Hour on July 8th at Baby Acapulco’s on Stonelake Boulevard. This is always a fun evening and is also one of our membership drives. If you came to the Bottle Auction but aren’t a member or need to renew your membership please come for another fun evening. Bring a friend and encourage them to join as a potion of our membership dues will be waived during this event. We also held a seminar on June 10th to present the changes that Fannie Mae implemented on June 1st. Over 70 people attended the 2 sessions and all said that the information was timely and useful. One attendee told me that they learned something that would enable them to get a loan approved under the new guidelines. This was the first of 4 seminars we are planning for this year and I hope to see you at the next one. If there’s a topic of interest, please let us know. I’d also like to extend a special thank you to Land Mortgage for allowing us to use their conference room for the seminar. We’ll return to our regular monthly luncheon schedule on August 12th and are pleased to welcome Jon Ballard, Vice President Field Servicing, PMI Group. Jon will be discussing Foreclosure Prevention. This is a very timely topic in light of the state of our economy. We are also starting to get more information on our Fall Education Conference on September 18-20 in Houston. This will be a great couple of days of educational seminars kicking off with a 3-hour course for the Certification in Mortgage Ethics, a new NAPMW designation. With all the bad publicity surrounding the mortgage business, designations like the CME help to set you apart. I would like to thank everyone who works so hard to make this Association what it is. Your Board works to bring you the education and social events that you want and enjoy. I look forward to seeing you at an event in the future.
