Message from the President July 2007 July 1, 2007 Message from Shawn Sullivan, 2007-2008 President NAPMW-Austin June was an exciting month for NAPMW – Austin! We hosted our 13th Annual Bottle Auction and Employer V.I.P. Night, “A Night in the Big Easy”. The evening was full of fabulous food, fun and festivities, as well as fantastic auction items and opportunity prizes. Approximately 140 people turned out to support NAPMW – Austin and enjoyed the evening with us. Twenty-seven bottles were auctioned off for a grand total of $10,145.00! As a way to say thank you to everyone that purchased a table or bottle or donated a bottle, we will be hosting a happy hour on July 10th at Baby A’s. The money collected during the Bottle Auction for the opportunities has been used to purchase books for Dawson Elementary, which NAPMW – Austin has chosen to support as part of our 2007-2008 community involvement project. Along with book donations, we are coordinating with the school to set up a mentoring program, where volunteers can visit and read with selected students during the school year. More information on the mentoring program and other volunteer opportunities will be coming soon, so please be sure to watch for it! NAPMW – Austin currently has 83 members. We had four new members join in June, and six renewed memberships. The first membership drive for the 2007-2008 year is being held July 10th in conjunction with the Bottle Auction Happy Hour. Each new member that has joined since March has been invited to attend. Any new or renewing member, or someone who brings a guest that becomes a new or renewing member, will be entered into a drawing to win a prize valued at $50.00, donated by Jeanne Evans and A+ Federal Credit Union. So be sure to bring any friends or co-workers that are not currently members and have them join! In addition, anyone who joins as a new member at the happy hour will receive a voucher to attend their first general meeting at no cost. The first month of my term as NAPMW – Austin President was exciting indeed – and I am anticipating 11 more exciting months!
