Message from the President
May 2008
My, my...how the year has flown! It’s hard to believe this is the last President’s Message I will write……..
I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as your President this past year. It was a task I was not sure that I was ready to undertake a year ago, but after many pep talks from my fellow board members, I decided that I could give it a try. And it turns out that they were right - I was able to serve as President and it didn't kill me! In fact, it's been a really great experience, and has taught me a lot about myself.
This year has definitely had it's challenging moments for all of us in the industry, but we are still here, alive and kicking. As I sat down to write this several days ago, I reflected on what has happened to me personally this year, and had to chuckle at the realization that I came through unscathed, for the most part at least...I have sold a house, moved twice, was laid off, started a new business, served as NAPMW-Austin President, got married, had a baby...but it's been a fantastic year and I wouldn't trade any part of it. I have made some irreplaceable friends in the past few years, and many of them are people I met and became close to while serving on this board for the past 3 years.
I truly encourage you to think about becoming involved as a committee member or board member if you aren't already. I promise that you will learn lessons you never thought you needed to learn, and will make friends that you weren't aware you needed until you made them.
I would like to thank all of my fellow board members and committee members for their hard work this past year - we had a wonderful year, with great education and networking events - and it took everyone of you to make it happen. I would also like to thank you all for stepping in to help me out these last three months, while I've been having to take it easy and cut back on some of my responsibilities. Your help and thoughtfulness have been greatly appreciated.
Again, I have truly enjoyed serving as your President this past year, and look forward to serving as 1st Director under our new President, Connie Smith.
Shawn Sullivan
