President's Message

Greetings!

We had an incredible turnout at the FHLMC Seminar on Affordable Housing on October 12th. It was a very wet day but the downpour didn’t dampen the spirits of our guests or our speakers! We all got a birds eye view of FHLMC’s many options for affordable housing including the Home Possible Product. We are grateful to FHLMC’s Double Diamond Support of NAPMW!

Unfortunately a family emergency kept me from attending the Regional Education Meeting in Kansas City on October 19th. Our Treasurer, Ginny Miller however attended and really enjoyed participating and standing in for me at the President’s Meeting. I will let her share with you in this edition her experiences with the Central Region NAPMW!

I want to take the opportunity to tell you how enormously grateful I am to have such incredible people to work with on the Local NAPMW board as well as the members of the various committees. I don’t know if you know how much effort and thought they put in each month to make each month something special whether it is education or special events. It seems to be the time of the year to count our blessings and I would like to just briefly acquaint you with the individuals who serve on YOUR NAPMW-Austin Board.

Our Corresponding Secretary, Gretchen Rossington (Greenpoint Mortgage) keeps us all up to-date by e-mailing you information regarding the upcoming events. She also helps keep our data base up to date. Our Recording Secretary, Shirley Windle (MortgageIT Lending)keeps our records for board meetings and General Meetings as well. Shirley also spent several years on the board in the past as our Treasurer. Ginny Miller (Ameripro Funding) is our current Treasurer and has previous experience as the Local President for Dallas, Texas. I would have to confess that of all the positions on the board, the Treasurer is one I have never attempted. I am in awe of anyone who can keep all the balls in the air the way they do in this position! Our local is structured so that each of the primary areas of direction is headed by Vice Presidents. VP of Education is Angela Bujnoch (RMIC). Perhaps you don’t know this but Angela was in Public Education prior to the mortgage industry. She has done a wonderful job this year organizing our education and we have all benefited from it. Vice President of Services and Resources is the effervescent Laura Vallejo (Genworth Mortgage Insurance). Services and Resources juggles all the Fundraising and Social Events and oversees our Charity for the year. Beginning with the Bottle Auction and including our Valentine Fundraiser as well as everything and anything that may come along between them. Communications is an important part of any volunteer organization and Connie Smith (Fidelity National Title) has served for two years as our VP of Communications. Her successes this year have included the very newsletter your reading! We are very proud of the newsletter and I take my hat off to her for overseeing this. Well that leads me to two individuals who act as avid supporters to this board. You don’t see them on the front lines as much as the others but their support is no less valuable than any of the others. Rachelle Bennett (Greenpoint Mortgage) was my predecessor as President last year and I have been grateful for her insight this year as well. She is this year’s 1st Director. Beverly Kerbow (PMI)is our 2nd Director and supports our President-Elect in developing our Membership! Shawn Sullivan (Wells Fargo Home Mortgage) agreed last year to serve as President-Elect. Serving in this position is really a three year commitment. Shawn will continue on as President next year and then serve as 1st Director. Shawn has always been very committed to NAPMW-Austin and has become a close friend as well. She has worked with Beverly to develop a strategic plan to develop our membership and this has taken off in so many ways that we have even developed some interest in other locals across the country. I can’t end this list without listing Jeanne Evans (A+Federal Credit Union). Jeanne agreed last year to act as my Parliamentarian. This is not an elected position however it is a very important one. Jeanne has been a member of NAPMW as long as I have and has served as a President, Treasurer and other positions I can’t begin to count. Additionally Jeanne has served in several Regional positions. This year she is the Central Region Bylaws Chairperson. I can’t begin to tell you all the many ways Jeanne keeps us in balance!

I know what you’re thinking! You can’t wait to be a member of the NAPMW-Austin Board! Well you’re in luck, because even though we are only a little short of halfway through the year we will begin soliciting nominations for the board. Please visit with any one of us about what you can do to make YOUR NAPMW shine next year! I would invite you to speak to one of these women the next time you see them. Thank them for taking time away from their personal lives and family to support you as a member! Thank their companies for supporting them in their positions with NAPMW-Austin. Thank you as well for supporting the industry by participating in NAPMW-Austin. As our industry shifts and changes over the next few months it is wonderful to know that we have only to attend a monthly meeting to take advantage of education and networking opportunities available to all of us!

Here is wishing you many Thanksgiving Blessings!

Candace Smith, CMI
