Message from the President
November 2007
Dear Members,
Fall is finally here! With the holidays just around the corner, this is a time of caring and sharing, and taking time to give back to our community. This year, NAPMW-Austin is having a busy November, and I want to take a brief moment to tell you a little bit about what we have going on.
Last spring, we chose to partner with Molly Dawson Elementary School for our community involvement project. We have been raising money to sponsor events at the school and collecting new and gently used books for grades K-5 at each of our monthly meetings. On November 1st, Dawson held their Awards Assembly for the first 9 weeks grading period, and NAPMW-Austin was invited to attend and to present a very special award. At the end of each 9-week period, students who have had perfect attendance during the period have their name entered in a drawing for a new bicycle. We were very excited and honored to purchase and present a beautiful bicycle and helmet to one lucky fourth grade girl. It was great to see her enthusiasm and excitement when her name was called and she was given the bike. We were also able to present the 5th grade class with 126 brand new Scholastic books to be put in the library for the entire school to enjoy. We would like to thank our members in advance for donating money at each luncheon and purchasing opportunity tickets so that we can continue to contribute to Dawson.
On November 8th, NAPMW-Austin will be hosting our first ever Pancake Supper, with all proceeds being given to Dawson Elementary. This is a family-friendly event, with pancakes, bacon and sausage being prepared by NAPMW-Austin board members and volunteers, as well as face painting for the kids! The cost to attend is $5.00 for adults, and is free for kids under 12 if they bring a new or gently used book to donate to Dawson.
Our November 13th luncheon should be really interesting and appealing to a wide variety of members. Susan Young, President of Get In Front Communications and Susan Young Media Relations, Inc., will be conducting a presentation on communicating with verbal and non-verbal cues. Since this is something that everyone does on a daily basis, there should be something we can each take from her presentation to make our communication skills that much better!
I hope to see you at the Pancake Supper and the monthly luncheon. As always, thank you for your continued support of NAPMW-Austin.
