President's Message
Greetings!
Well Fall is almost here-though you would not be able to tell from the ridiculous heat we have been having. The signs are there though. The kids are back in school; the traffic is worse but on the bright side-NAPMW-Austin is back in full swing! Our first general meeting was held at our new location, Dave and Busters at 183 and North Mopac. We had a great turnout to hear our speaker Eva DeLuna-Castro from the Center for Public Policy Priorities. Eva shared some great information with us on the changes to the tax laws and their effect on the school systems themselves as well as the implications for us as tax payers. If you missed it you may wish to go to their website to learn more. The address is www.cppp.org .
Shortly after that meeting I spent time at the NAPMW National Leadership Symposium and came away with some great knowledge about developing leadership qualities. One of the wonderful things I enjoy about NAPMW is that I always come away from any event having learned something new and this experience was no different. Our speaker Mark Levin shared with us the reasons people join volunteer associations and the reasons they stay.
It is an investment in the individual’s career. However as in any good investment-you expect a return. Value enables you, the individual to gain recognition and access to continuing education. Both of these will reap the reward of adding value and advancement to your career.
In investing in a career, the individual also gets to support their industry and their profession.
I wonder how many of us have thought that in becoming a member of NAPMW it is a two way street. You may join because your company wants you to be involved or because someone you know wants you to. But in doing so, you are investing in opportunities to grown personally and professionally. Your investment also sends a message that you’re proactively supporting one of the largest growing industries in the United States.
This month we look forward to hearing from Paige McGilloway with the Texas State Department of Affordable Housing. Her message will be on the various Bond Programs that the state has available to your borrowers. You will come away from this meeting learning about such bond programs as:
The Professional Educators, Homes for Heroes and Nursing Faculty Programs.
Which programs are available to individuals who are not First Time Homebuyers
How to market these programs in your community
If you have not already registered for this event, please contact Gretchen Rossington at gretchen.rossington@greenpoint.com and she will add you to the list.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for October 10th! We are pleased to welcome FHLMC an NAPMW Double Diamond Sponsor to Austin. They will present a two hour seminar on affordable housing and the Expanding Market –this will focus on marketing to Emerging Markets, underwriting Non Traditional Borrowers and FHLMC products designed to appeal to the Affordable Housing Borrower. We hope you will join us. Look for details on this very soon.
I hope to see you at the meeting on September 12th!
Keep Smiling!
Candace Smith, CMI
