Message from the President

August 2007

As Bob Dylan would say, “The Times They Are A-Changin’”!

And as our industry continues to evolve and change, we must continue to educate ourselves in order to keep up with the competition. Education is the number one focus of NAPMW, and we have some fantastic opportunities coming up in the next couple of months.

Juliana Brock, CMI and CEO of Power Training will be the featured speaker at our September monthly luncheon. She will be covering the new licensing requirements for loan officers and mortgage brokers, as well as House Bill 716, which is the new mortgage fraud act that takes effect September 1st. In October, NAPMW will be co-hosting a luncheon with the Women’s Council of Realtors, featuring Danny Payne, Commissioner of the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending. Commissioner Payne will be speaking on the new legislative updates affecting the mortgage industry. Both of these events will help you to familiarize yourself with the critical changes taking place in our industry.

The TAMB Convention is being held September 13th-15th in San Antonio. This is a fabulous opportunity to invest in yourself, network and meet new people, and secure at least 12 hours of education credits. All education classes will be held September 13th and 14th, and the TAMB Marketplace will be open all day Saturday, September 15th. AMBA will be having their monthly luncheon on September 5th at the Austin Country Club, featuring Jim Gaines of the Texas A&M Real Estate Center. Mr. Gaines will be discussing the current housing market and real estate analysis, which is a very timely topic in the current mortgage market.

It’s easy to get frustrated and overwhelmed during times like this, but we all have to keep a positive attitude, pull ourselves up by the boot straps, and get back in the game! Take advantage of the networking and educational opportunities that are given to you at the local, state and national level from all of your mortgage organizations…you never know who you will meet or what you will learn that may open up a new door or avenue of business for you. I wish you all the best of luck, and thank you for your continued support of NAPMW-Austin
